Certain cars need some additional things like pins 7-8 bridged at the obc connector, some need certain pins jumped at the 20 pin obc adapter, and some use separate ignition/battery k-lines and need additional wiring to obc pins etc. From there you can find properly made cables specific to your vehicles if you do some research. Check transmission swap threads for better info since you need to reflash using these cables and factory software, lots of detail out there. There are also a variety of settings needed on these serial adapters to get them working right. you'll want a 20 pin to obc adapter and k+dcan USB adapter with an ftdi chipset (google) for older than 2001 model years. Older cars depend on years/model but many older cars use a variety of pinouts at the 20pin obc under the hood for more advanced things. Most newer cars (2001+) can do evetything through the 16 pin obc using a k+dcan usb cable.
